Katarn built his own lightsaber (his third blade) at the start of his formal training at the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin IV, although he soon left and for a time abandoned the Force, fearing the Dark Side in himself. He would eventually return to the Jedi, retrieving this saber from Luke Skywalker several years later. Katarn's elegant weapon is considerably longer than most human lightsaber hilts.
