Used on all three series of the landmark British show, the King's Guard wore royal red norman tabards with the three lions of England, markedly different to the blue, white, and red chevron we see in the show, depicting the Sheriff of Nottinghams livery.
Here are two examples. The gold paint has slightly worn on both, but would originally have been fully coloured. Due to use at the time, and possibly after, the water-based paint would rub off or run when wet. Through the show you see examples of this.
One has metal eyelets around the arm holes which the other does not. This indicates that it was previously used as another costume. That costume was one of the Hounds of
Lucifer's blood red uniforms and Coven members attire. The eyelets were sewn in in order to attach the thin silk cloaks that billowed behind them.
