The Last Samurai, Katsumoto's Katana
original movie prop weapon
Katsumoto’s (Ken Watanabe) katana from Edward Zwick’s historical war epic The Last Samurai. Katsumoto used his katana throughout the film as he fought the Japanese Imperial Army — first against, then alongside, American soldier Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise). This sword screen-matches to the scene where Katsumoto speaks with Algren by a campfire, the night before the climactic battle and the finale scenes where Tom Cruise offers the sword to the Emperor
Made by Weta Workshop, the sword is constructed entirely of resin. The grip is crafted to resemble wood with an ornate guard, and the handle is made to appear bound in cloth. The blade is dulled for safety during combat and features engraved symbols cast on its right side. The prop sword shows spots of dried faux blood from use during fight scenes , and exhibits some wear from production use, including chips in the paint finish. Dimensions: 99 cm x 8 cm x 6 cm (39” x 3” x 2 ˝”)
