Rio Lobo, John Wayne Western Costume
original movie costume
The trademark stockade jacket, blue shirt and tan pants worn by John Wayne in RIO LOBO, his last collaboration with Howard Hawks. Wayne wore the same costume pieces in many of his films from the early 1960s. The pants date from EL DORADO, as does the jacket, which is also the one used in TRUE GRIT, at the cabin when Wayne takes it off and gives it to Glen Campbell to cover the smoke stack. The shirt is one from his calvary uniform, stripped of the yellow shoulder epaulets and front pockets. It is also worn in THE UNDEFEATED. The coat, distinctive by the rounded corners of the collar, is also seen in one scene of BIG JAKE - where Wayne first meets Richard Boone at the camp site. All pieces from the John Wayne Estate sale at HERITAGE.
