Just Visiting, Jeweled Fleur de Lis Medallion Necklace
original movie costume
“Courage is our creed!” From the 2001 fantasy comedy Just Visiting, this 4.75” x 3.25” metal medallion with applied plastic gemstones on a .5” diameter chain necklace can be seen on screen directly after Count Thibault of Malféte (Jean Reno) stabs Lady Rosalind (Christina Applegate) on the eve of their wedding while in a witchcraft-induced hallucination. After the spell wears off, a grief-stricken Thibault calls for his devoted servant, André le Pâté (Christian Clavier), to fetch a wizard (Malcom McDowell) in order to travel back through the corridors of time and prevent the tragedy from happening, but the inept sorcerer mistakenly propels them out of the Middle Ages and into the 21st century. The fleur de lis, which features prominently throughout the movie on the Malféte family crest, was historically a royal decoration associated with the French monarchy. Unsurprisingly, the noble wearer of the jewelry appears seated at King Henry's (Richard Bremmer) high table between Thibault's two sisters (Kendra Torgan, Lucy Blair). Based on Les Visiteurs (1993), one of the highest-grossing films ever in France, the American remake has the distinction of being the last screenwriting credit of John Hughes, who once again makes proficient use of Chicago as his storytelling setting.
