The Mummy, Imhotep Mechanical Arm
original movie prop
A SFX mechanical arm used in the 1999 archaeological action movie The Mummy. This arm can be seen towards the beginning of the film when Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo) had been resurrected from the grave and stumbles across the religious symbol collecting Beni Gabor (Kevin O’Connor) and offers him a handful of gold for his services. The arm has an internal metal bar and an array of metal wires connected to different parts of the hand (as muscles in a real hand) which are fed down to the base of the arm from where it would be controlled. The arm has a layer of foam latex which has been styled and painted to resemble Imhotep’s rotting skin. This great looking and working forearm measures 72cm (28.25”) long.
