Warehouse 13, H.P. Lovecraft Silver Key Artifact

original movie prop

In fourth season episode An Evil Within, groups of Philadelphia residents suddenly find themselves fighting off attacks by monstrous eldritch horrors, only to find after the battles end that the nightmare creatures were really just nonthreatening human beings, and not monsters at all.

Myka and Pete eventually trace the hallucinations to this key, which once belonged to H.P. Lovecraft himself. Now when each victim touches the key, people nearby start to see them as a slithering, gelatinous, glowing-eyed, insanity-inducing Elder God right out of Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.

The Key to the Gate of Dreams, as originally described by H.P. Lovecraft in his short story The Silver Key (1926), was used by Lovecraft's semi-autobiographical recurring character Randolph Carter to considerably different effect (both less dramatic and more profound) than in this Warehouse 13 episode.

Antiqued metal skeleton key. Close to screen-match possible in some scenes.
