My friend, Martin Klebba fires the cannon. This cannon can be rigged to blow a charge from underneath the barrel. Historically, these cannons could be picked up and moved to different parts of the ship by being inserted in the tie holes. This same cannon can be seen in Master and Commander as well.
Here you can see them when Jack steals the interceptor and when Zoe Saldana takes control too.
