Batman, Gotham City police patch
original movie costume
This police patch was worn by one of the Gotham City Police Department Officer characters in the 1989 motion picture "Batman", starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. The patch was custom made for the film out of a blue latex coated nylon material. The lettering is stitched with a yellow and red thread, which reads “G.C.P.D City of Gotham Inc. 1899, Police”.
These patches were worn by G.C.P.D. characters in several key sequences from the film, such as when Batman makes his first onscreen appearance and assists the police in foiling a bank robbery, and later when he and assorted officers attempt to capture the notorious criminal “Jack Napier” (Nicholson) and inadvertently cause the accident that transforms him into the maniacal “Joker”.
“Batman” was directed by Tim Burton and featured an all star-cast with such other notable actors as Jack Palance, Billy Dee Williams, and Kim Basinger. The film received an Academy Award for Best Art Direction – Set Decoration in 1990.
The patch is in good screen used condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
