Catch Me If You Can, Frank Abagnale’s (Leonardo DiCaprio) Screen Worn Doctor’s Costume

This doctor’s costume was worn by the character “Frank Abagnale Jr.” portrayed by actor Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2002 motion picture “Catch Me If You Can” also starring Tom Hanks and Christopher Walken. The outfit consists of a long sleeve cotton dress shirt by Anto Shirtmakers of Beverly Hills, a pair of Dominic Gherardi chino pants, an off white cotton lab coat, yellow cotton tie with rust grid pattern, and a black leather belt with gold buckle. The shirt was custom made for the actor’s use and has the tailoring label with initials “L.D.” and date “Dec. 2001” sewn into the collar. The custom made pants have the tailoring label sewn inside with the name “Leonardo DiCaprio” and production date “January 2002” clearly typed. The inside of the lab coat has the character name “Frank” written in black ink. Mr. DiCaprio wore this costume in several scenes after Frank gets a job working as a physician in a hospital pediatric ward. Notable scenes include when Frank bluffs his way through an Emergency Room consultation with two other doctors, and later when he makes out with his assisting nurse “Brenda” (played by Amy Adams). “Catch Me If You Can” was based on the true life story of Frank Abagnale Jr., a young man who impersonated a Pan Am pilot, a physician, and several other bogus identities in order to run confidence scams and evade the law. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards in 2003, and designer Mary Zophres was nominated for a BAFTA award for Best Costume Design for her outstanding work on the production. The garments are in very good screen worn condition with some minor evidence of dirt on the rear hem of the lab coat that occurred during filming. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house that supplied the wardrobe used on the production and a COA from The Golden Closet.
