This is a real wood flame arrow. There were only two scenes in the film where they were used. One where the English soldiers fired on the merry men and the other was the barrell explosion arrows. Go back and see the movie.
One can be seen in the ever famous slow motion shot of Robin Hood shooting the executioner in the head.
