Robin of Sherwood, Fake Wattle Wall piece from Little John's Hut, Hathersage
original set dressing / pieces
This is a piece of "fake" wattle and daubbing from Little John's hut, in the Series Three episode, "Hernes Son."
After the death of Robin of Loxley (The Greatest Enemy,Series Two) the merry men disband. Little John and Much the Millers Son go back to a simple farming existence in Hathersage. When Herne's new chosen son, Robert of Huntingdon, returns to the forest to reunite the outlaws, one of his first jobs is to track down Little John.
On a lonely, windswept moors he finds John in a ramshackle old hut/former chapel. This was a false set built in Somerset where a lot of filming took place for the show. This same set is later reworked for Adam Bell, as a ruined church where the Sheriff makes a trade for his nephew, Martin.
Much of the wattle and daub cob that was used for village sets on the show was either heavy fabric coated with clay/mud, or a fake plastic that was made to look old and decaying. Boards of this stuff would be bolted together to form the sides of buildings before real thatch was placed on top.
This is a small piece that came from Clive Mantle's hut during a set visit.
