Embryo, Embryo Original Production Used Script
original production material
An original Final Draft screenplay written by Anita Doohan and Jack Thomas, based on a story by Jack Thomas.
Released by Cine Artists Pictures in 1976, "Embryo" was directed by Ralph Nelson, written by Anita Doohan and Jack Thomas, produced by Anita Doohan and Arnold H. Orgolini, and starred Rock Hudson, Diane Ladd, Roddy McDowall, and Barbara Carrera as the accelerated embryo.
The script is bound with metal pins in red faux leather covers with "Embryo" stamped in gold foil to front cover and handwritten in black marker to spine. Pages numbered [1]-136 are white and clean, though several of the page corners have been turned down. "Final Draft" noted in black typeface to top right corner of title page. Screenplay exhibits minor wear from light use and is otherwise clean. The script also includes a medical opinion letter from a contemporary UCLA Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in which the plausibility of a story such as "Embryo" is examined. In such letter, the professor states that all scientific methods mentioned in the story are said to be possible and that some have even been perfected in the current day. He goes on to say that only "ethical and legal restraints prevent the development and needed additional experimentation to perfect extra uterine growth and development of the human fetus. Otherwise, what we see in this script would be a reality today. [1974]"
