Warehouse 13, Edna St. Vincent Millay Candle Artifact
original movie prop
In the second story of fifth season episode Savage Seduction, Claudia and Steve investigate the case of a college student who suffers a mysterious injury while giving a presentation in class. The trail eventually leads to a frat house basement, where they discover a strange ritual using a candle once owned by the poet Edna St. Vincent Millay. Light the candle at both ends, splash the wax on someone, and they split in two, one set to study, and the other ready to party.
Edna St. Vincent Millay was a celebrated poet, playwright, and feminist of early twentieth century New York. Her 1920 collection of verse, A Few Figs From Thistles, drew both criticism and praise for its exploration of female sexuality and feminism. Millay received the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1923, only the third woman to do so.
15 x 2" (38 x 5 cm) wax candle with previously-lit wicks at both ends, wrapped in a paper sleeve bearing St. Vincent Millay's poem 'First Fig':
My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends -
It gives a lovely light!
