Django Unchained, Django stunt revolver gun display
original movie prop
A stunt revolver used in the Oscar-winning Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained. Sold into slavery away from his wife, the African American Django (Jamie Foxx) is offered his freedom in exchange for information by Dr Schultz (Christoph Waltz), a bounty hunter who takes the freed slave on as his apprentice in the ways of justice.
This pistol was used by Django in the plantation of Spencer “Big Daddy” Bennett (Don Johnson), where the Brittle Brothers, a gang with an enormous bounty on their heads, are hiding. Finding two of the Brittle Brothers – Big John (M.C. Gainey) and Li’l Raj (Cooper Huckabee) – about to beat a slave girl, he kills Big John before whipping Little Raj, who drops his pistol trying to draw it. Django, after the severe whipping, retrieves the pistol – a Colt Dragoon – and kills Little Raj with it.
Made of rubber with a metal armature within for rigidity, this weapon would have been used for stunts and when close-up hero versions of the pistol were not required. The weapon has been finished in black with a wooden finish for the grip. The weapon was cast from a mould of a real Colt Dragoon revolver, with manufacturer’s stamps still visible on the sides and underside of the pistol.
Well used on the production, the pistol remains in a very good production-used condition, measuring 35cm (13.75”) long. The pistol comes displayed in a beautiful bespoke framed display featuring the film’s logo, a short description and stills from the film. The front panel of the display opens to allow direct access to the piece, and measures 59cm x 50cm x 7cm (23.25“ x 19.75“ x 2.75“).
