A Zodanga Soldier's Complete Costume worn in Andrew Stanton's adaptation of the comic series, John Carter. The film follows Confederate Army Captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) on an interplanetary adventure to Mars where he finds himself in the middle of a great war. Costumes of this style can be seen worn by the Zodanga soldiers throughout the film.
This uniform consists of an armored helmet, red scarf, shoulder plate armor, half breastplate, cape, arm guards, waist armor, underwear, greaves, and boots. The helmet has been cast from rubber and features a static metallic visor mounted on the front. Inside the helmet are strips of foam padding for a comfortable fit.
The body armor is made from a variety of materials and protects most of the left side of the body, while leaving the right side largely exposed. The plating is made from vacuform plastic and is attached to a layer of handcrafted studded leather. Branching out from the metal crest on the chest are two straps that tie to the back of the armor. Tied to the chestplate is a production distressed red cape and shoulder armor. Each arm has been outfitted with a set of plastic gauntlets that are loosely attached to leather bands that fasten to the wrist with nylon cords. Both of these guards appear to be for the left arm as they are identical in construction. Worn around the waist is a belt with three flaps that ties behind the back with a leather cord. The belt and center flap are constructed from leather, while the armored flaps on either side are cast in rubber. Under this is a simple pair of production made briefs that are made from red cotton.
Below the waist are a pair of greaves that are made from rubber, plastic, and leather. These items cinch in the back with a single elastic cord that is knotted behind the calf. Worn around the feet are a pair of custom made leather shoes that have been decorated with rubber platting.
The sword features a wooden blade that has been glued into a wooden handle that has been wrapped with a strip of red leather. The blade has been painted silver with red highlights in the grooves cut into the sides. Fitted through two holes cut into the base of the blade is a brass colored metal ring.
