Star Wars: A New Hope, Cantina Characters Original Production Test Photo Sheet
original production material
This is an original contact sheet of production test photos used on the original 1977 film Star Wars. Photos like these were taken for visual reference, continuity, and decision making in the different departments working on the film. This particular contact sheet features production test shots of various aliens seen on Tattooine when Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Ben Kenobi (Sir Alec Guinness) enter the city and visit the Mos Eisley Cantina. Featured here are photos of the Mos Eisley Cantina’s bartender Wuher (portrayed by actor Ted Burnett), cantina patron / alien assassin Dannik Jerriko (portrayed by the film’s stunt coordinator Peter Diamond), and Ponda Baba (Tommy Ilsley), whose arm is severed by Ben Kenobi’s light saber in an altercation at the bar. This is an original contact sheet created for the production’s use, and two photos have been cut out of the sheet, possibly for reference. This item was acquired from an inner industry source that worked on the production and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
