miscellaneous productions, Bust of Irwin S. Cobb
original production material
Irwin S. Cobb (1876-1944) was the author of 60 books, 300 short stories, a newspaper man, and late in his life an actor. After writing screenplays and title cards for silent films, FOX decided to film his JUDGE PRIEST novels, starring Will Rogers, in the early 30s. Cobb was cast as his sidekick in the second one, and after Rogers death in 1935, in his own vehicles. He also hosted the 1935 Academy Awards Ceremony. One of his many memorable quotes is:
"An epitaph is a belated advertisement for a line of goods that has been discontinued."
Above, at the 1935 AA ceremony, Cobb with Lionel Barrymore and Best Actor winner Clark Gable. Below, Cobb with friend and co star Will Rogers.
