Fashions Of 1934, Bette Davis Marionette
original production material
A small detailed marionette of Bette Davis, in costume close to the one worn in this film, which is more about con artists than fashions, co starring William Powell.
The figure shows Davis in her blonde period WB first thrust upon her against her will. She complained they were trying to "Garbo her". It did not last long.
Marionettes of celebrities were in vogue in the 1930s by famed puppeteers as Sue Hastings and Harry Burnett. MGM had a traveling exhibit of motorized marionettes of their roster. Theaters often had prologues using such puppets.
