Robin Hood, Baron Fitzrobert Style Shield
original movie prop
This shield was used by one of Baron Fitzrobert's men in the 2010 Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe movie Robin Hood. It was used in the scenes where the local Barons of the North join forces to defend their shores against the invading King Phillip. The shield is painted a deep red with three horizontal yellow chevrons. It has been covered in a lacquer to protect the shield making it particularly glossy. It is kite shaped made from wood with a flat top which has been covered in canvas. The front is padded slightly for the actor's protection during the action scenes. It has a leather arm strap and carry strap on the back which is held in place by rivets that can be seen from the front as small round dents. The shield has a reinforced section of metal at the taped bottom tip which is in the shape of a diamond. The entire shield has suffered battle damage while on the set; such as, discoloration and flaking but this adds a definite sense of action to the piece. It measures 47 by 24 inches.
