Star Trek Original Series, Art Asylum Star Trek Phaser w/Metal Parts
replica movie prop weapon
This was an 2003 Art Asylum Star Trek phaser replica that I modified with an 18pc hero metal parts package. Not being able yet to afford one of those more expensive replicas I figured I would turn this toy into not so much a toy replica. Im yet to complete the P1 adding side rails and an aluminum thumb wheel but i will soon. Also, I was inspired by all of you that have done this particular project and figured I would give a try. I grinded down the plastic side switch flat and epoxied it to the back of the new metal switch. I bought a hollow emitter tip but I hollowed out the back part so the led could rest just inside it and hot glued it place. The switch still works great so continued doing some dremel work for the aluminum nozzle and used Milliput to hold it in place. I applied glaze putty around the side switch on the outside and filled in two screw holes, barely dabbing a couple of drops of glue around the front part and clamped it down to dry. I also added a chunk of lead inside the handle to give the replica more weight. I got the rear dial replaced, I was a bit worried about that part but it worked out great. As for painting I used rattle cans, Glidden Victory Blue Satin, Rustoleum hammered dark bronze for the handle and Dupri Color scratch filler primer. I think I did ok being my first time attempting something like this but I hope to do a couple more of these in the future.
