Con Air, AZZ KIKR - corvette license plate
original movie prop
A number plate from Duncan Malloy’s (Colm Meaney) wrecked Corvette sports car, used in the 90s action blockbuster Con Air. Sent to a maximum security prison for killing a man in self-defence, former US Army Ranger Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage) is finally due to be released. But when the prisoner transport aircraft he’s aboard is hijacked by the inmates, he takes it upon himself to foil their escape attempt so that he can see his wife and daughter again.
Acquired from a principle crew member, this number plate and others like it were used for the scene where DEA agent Malloy and Bureau of Prisons agent Vince Larkin (John Cusack) look over the prized Corvette sports car after it is dragged by the Jail Bird through the Lerner Field control tower. Made of stamped metal and burned to give it a rusted, abused look, the plate features printed stickers along the top to identify the number plate as being from the state of California, issued in October 1997, with the AZZ KIKR letters finished in blue. The number plate was previously folded to further enhance the damaged appearance of the plate, but it has since been flattened out.
Featuring intentional heavy distressing from use on the production, this number plate is an excellent piece from the film, measuring 31cm x 15cm (12” x 6”).
