Doctor Who, 2nd Doctor's 1968 Penlight Sonic Screwdriver

replica movie prop

The 2nd Doctor's sonic screwdriver. Never has a prop been more cheap than a penlight but SO illusive to find. It was just a standard run-of-the-mill penlight from the mid 1960's but just which one has been a point of speculation for some time and while this pen light isn't  probably the correct one, it is close enough.

Well, I finally found a decent representation to the 2nd Doctor's sonic screwdriver I like. My previous find was a Gem Grading Light that was very similar and had a clip on pocket clip. I originally removed that because I liked the clean, sleek look but after looking at some stills made from friends on the RPF I found that the pocket clip was indeed supposed to be there, but more than that it appeared rather integrated in the construction of the pen light they used for the prop. I found another model entirely that looked very close to my eyes but so far my efforts to find one have not gone well. I only ever found pictures. This penlight still matches the stills taken from the 6th episode of The War Games. (thanks Terrasolo)

This however is VERY good for my purposes and is rather nice. It has a brushed finish to it that seems to be clear anodized if not silver anodized. Also it has a nice stainless steel button and pocket clip. While the tip where the bulb sits is wrong the basic design means I may use this penlight as a base to make a replica with the correct tip.
