Glee, "Cheerios" Cheerleading Uniform (Season 2-6 Style)
original movie costume
This red with white and black trim cheerleading shell top and skirt was worn by a background actress as a member of the WMHS "Cheerios" cheerleading squad in Ryan Murphy's hit show Glee. This particular style of uniform was worn from Season 2 onward, and was manufactured for the production by Broadway Cheerleading of California.
The iconic "Cheerios" uniform was initially designed by Dehen Cheer of Portland, Oregon. The more complex style of shell top seen in Season 1 featured slimming hourglass-shaped white side-panels with black trim, and red trim along the armholes--and in the pilot episode (and in active cheer sequences throughout the first season), it was paired with a non-pleated skirt which had matching side-panels. For the second episode, the non-pleated skirt was replaced with a design featuring deep pleats; in fact, Quinn Fabray remaked on the new skirts as a background Cheerio twirled in one, saying "God bless the perv that invented these!" This style of skirt would remain throughout the series, but the shell top would be replaced in the Season 2 premiere with the simplified design which would remain through the final episode, in Season 6. The newer style of top did away with the side panels and simplified the trim, opting for a streamlined style with a larger white panel across the bust.
